DEUCE BAR & CAFE
We are excited to announce Letchworth Sports and Tennis Club’s NEW Deuce Bar and Cafe.
In February, Anne Murray will be taking over the Bar and Cafe area to bring us new items to the menu and a new lease of life in the cafe area. Anne comes to us with 30 years of catering experience and is looking to serve healthy, nutritious as well as tasty food.
A word from Anne- “I look forward to meeting you all in the New Year and catering for you. My priority is to make sure you have food available throughout the day that is prepared on the premises. There will be breakfast items available on the menu as well as ready made baguettes, salads, fruit salads and yoghurts. If there are ‘old favourite’ or new ideas you would like to try, just come and let me know! See you all soon at LSTC”.

A new Adult Social Tennis session has been added to the timetable on Wednesdays 9.30-11.30am. This is a great way to come and meet other members of your club. Mix in and play doubles, singles or mixed doubles. Check out the website for more information.
PLUS 'over 50's Fitness Fun' has always been running on a Wednesday, but now we are introducing over 50's Fitness Fun on a Friday too. From 10.30-2.30pm come and play badminton, tennis, table tennis or work out in the gym.

An open Bats and Rackets session featuring Badminton and Table Tennis will be held every Sunday 1.30-3.00pm on Indoor Court 3 starting JANUARY 22nd.

Gym News...
Bring a friend for FREE on the first Saturday of every month to try LetchworthFitness.
The Biggest Loser Challenge is now £8 per week starting January 16th and is led by an instructor for each workout. This is for a minimum of 8 weeks but includes unlimited gym usage for that period of time. Gym members receive the challenge for free.

Tournament News...
The Letchworth Sports and Tennis Club's Junior Tournament ran successfully over the past week. With all age groups competing we saw successes from a lot of our players. A standout was Catherine Hodge who won the Under 8 draw for the second consecuative time at the home-based tournament. Congratulations Catherine!

The box leagues will be taken down on Sunday 8th January, so if you need to complete the remainder of your matches you have time. Once taken down, the boxes will be calculated and relevant players will be moved.

HOME VS HENMAN
Club coach Martin Home took on four-time Wimbledon semi-finalist Tim Henman in a doubles match at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Martin partnered former top 10 player Peter McNamara after winning the Aegon Masters competition alongside Corin Superfine from Harpenden. Tim said “Martin has a great spirit to get up there and make things happen”.
Well done Martin. We’re proud of you!
CLUB AMBASSADORS
Club coach James Thomas has introduced an ambassador scheme. This is where volunteers from the club will promote tennis in their schools and look to increase tennis participation with a smooth transition from school to club tennis.

MULLED WINE TOURNAMENT
We had a very successful Mulled Wine and Mince Pie Tournament this month. This really showed how talented our members are by getting into the "merry" spirit of Christmas and playing tennis to a high standard. A great turn out of 24 on court and spectators in the crowd; it was great to see the club buzzing with a real club feel.

BOLLETIERI TRAINING CAMP
Lara McCormack, Harry Turner, Robert Lankester and Joe Riant trained at Nick Bollettieri’s tennis academy in Florida. All took part in vigorous training sessions and were entered in the Grand Prix Tournament.

David Latter was invited to an LTA national id day at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton. Only the top 24 player in the country were invited to the training day who all at the end of the day got to meet Grey Rusedski.

Offering a wide range of string for tennis, squash and badminton, JustRackets provide a high quality service at competitive prices. Well done to David Latter and Daniel Martin who both reached the finals of the Cambs and Herts Winter Regional Tournament in green ball - Keep up the good work! The Letchworth Lobbers won their first Orange and Green match 7 - 3 against Welwyn- Excellent! Sophie and Anneka Watts have also been in action in British Tour events. THE CHASE HOSPICE GUILDFORD
Our very own James Draper (gym) and Harvey Downes (bar) will be completing a half marathon on the 11December 2011. This is in aid of The Chase children’s hospice in Guildford.
Unfortunately James’ 6 month old cousin (Taylor West) has been diagnosed with SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) this year and has only been given a few weeks to live. Raising funds can help other children suffering with this by funding their care and the specialist equipment needed.
